Who was Baal?
Baal in the Bible. Baal was the main diety or false god who was worshipped by the peoples who dwelt in and around the land of ancient Israel before the Israelites inhabited the land. Mainly the ancient Caananites, Moabites and Phoenicians. Every sort of evil was practiced during the festivals of Baal and his wife Ashteroth. The fire was always burning in his temples, there were altars in his groves, and high places on the tops of houses and mountains.

2 Kings 23:5 - And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.
2 Kings 10:25 - And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, [and] slay them; let none come forth.
