Who was Daniel?

Daniel in the Bible. Daniel was one of the greatest prophets in the Bible and was known for his accuracy as an interpreter of dreams. His faithfulness to God caused him to be thrown into the lions den and God saved him. Daniel was taken captive to Babylon around 606 BC when he was very young, during the reign of Jehoiakim, King of Judah. Jerusalem had been under attack by King Nebuchadnezzar and many Hebrews were carried away as captives. Daniel became recognized in Babylon for his wisdom, and King Nebuchadnezzar exalted Daniel because of his accurate interpretations of his disturbing dreams. Daniel predicted the rise and fall of the world governing kingdoms, And he even mention them by name: Babylon, Medo Persia, Greece, Rome, and later a final Roman Empire that would be crushed by the coming of the everlasting kingdom of the Messiah. Daniel also predicted accurately when the Messiah would die or be "cut off", which would take place 483 years after the decree of the Persian ruler Cyrus to restore and rebuild Jerusalem. The book of Daniel in the Bible was given its name because of the man Daniel who wrote it.
